A Basic Study for the Treatment of Low Level Liquid Waste Containing Uranium in the Lagoon Facility

A preliminary study, which establishes the treatment methodology of liquid waste containing sludge and uranium in the lagoon of the conversion facility has been performed. Properties of the liquid waste such as initial water content, density and radiochemical composition were obtained by analyzing the samples taken from the lagoon. In order to minimize the secondary waste resulting from treatment of the lagoon sludge waste due to the anticipated facility dismantling, basic experiments such as bench scale drying, electrokinetic dewatering and uranium removal using the membrane-adsorption hybrid process have been carried out. The amount of waste volume to be produced was estimated and the methodology analysis to reduce the secondary waste was performed.
